Some people are happy working out in old t-shirts and sweatpants. I am not one of those people. I prefer colourful designs that are fun to wear and that stand out at the gym. Fun activewear designs can be hard to find in plus size (if there are any entrepreneurial types reading this, we need more plus-size activewear brands on the market!) Luckily, I’ve uncovered more than 20 brands and boutiques where you can find what you need to get your sweat on. Enjoy your workout!
Adidas carries fairly basic designs sporting their signature logo. You can buy Adidas directly online, but you can also often find it at Winners or Marshalls for a good price alongside Nike and other well-known brands. Sizing up to 4X.
Asos carries in-house activewear designs as well as a few well-known brands. Sizing varies across brands.
Athleta carries a nice selection of designs for a variety of activities. Sizing up to 3X.
Fabletic has by far the most colourful and unique designs on this list. The athletic line is sized up to 4X, while Lizzo’s Yitty shapewear and loungewear line goes up to 6X.
Girlfriend Collective has greatly expanded their collection over the past few years and now carries a range of styles in their signature eco-friendly recycled fabrics. I personally own two pairs of Girlfriend Collective leggings and they are the best I’ve ever had – I’ve owned them for years and they still look new. I do find that they run small so be sure to check the size chart. Sizing up to 6X.
A small but really fun collection of workout gear, including a high-impact sports bra option. Worth checking out. Sizing up to 4X.
Halara has a lot of styles to choose from in a variety of colours. Sizing up to 3X with some styles up to 5X.
Knix has a sizeable activewear collection that includes sports bras and even leak-proof leggings. Sizing up to 4X.
Joe Fresh carries activewear basics in a few colours. Sizing up to 3X.

Lane Bryant has a lot of different styles and fabrics to choose from, as well as sports bra options. Sizing up to 32.
Nike’s activewear designs for plus sizes are exactly what you would expect – a lot of black and white and a lot of the signature swoosh logo. Sizing up to 3X. You can sometimes find Nike at Winners or Marshalls at a discount.
Old Navy has the advantage of being very affordable while still offering fun and colourful options. Sizing up to 4X.
Penningtons carries the basics in a good range of sizes. This is a good place to look for sports bras as well. Sizing up to 5X.
This plus-focused activewear brand carries a very small collection but it is worth checking out. Sizing up to 5X.
While far from the most exciting option on this list, Reitmans does have a large selection of workout basics that are frequently on sale. Sizing up to 3X.
Although well-known for their high-impact sports bras, Shefit also has a range of other activewear to choose from. Be sure to check the size chart as they have their own unique sizing system.
I did not know that there was a plus-size online fitness company in Canada until I started researching for this blog post. I’m glad I found it! They carry a ton of brands and styles. Sizing varies across brands.

Torrid has some fun activewear designs although I would love to see them offer a wider selection. Sizing up to 6X.
Under Armour carries nicely designed basics in their plus range, including sports bras. Sizing up to 3X.
